Cheapest amp with decent tone ... for me it has to be the old Peavey "Redline" Basic 112. With an SRX2EX it was very clear, very 'hi-fi' sounding, and pretty loud for the tiny wattage, and made an excellent hard rock recording setup. With a Fender P it could also be dialed into an excellent smooth blues amp with no boomy bottom. I was pretty surprised. I paid $75 for it, iirc.
