Alright. I'll admit it - I have tried one of these just for kicks. I usually save up a few bucks every year between gigs and gear sales or trades, and splurge. Instead of buying yet another frigging Fender, or a Musicman or something else that will be doomed to become another "not my jazz bass" and collect dust before I move it along, I had someone like these guys build me a knockoff (which has no logo and will NEVER be passed off as the real deal, nor is it even that convincing).

Also, this is kind of why I am more into buying amps than basses. At least I'll use those, but I digress.

I slapped some really nice electronics in my knockoff and swapped out the crappy hardware for some nice hipshot stuff and a real output jack. I had to do a little sanding in the cavity to get the new pots to fit right (a couple of 'em still wobble a little, but whatever).

The thing is...not bad. Intonation is good, neck is big and fat like a P-bass which is different for me, but very much playable. Does it feel like my Lakland? No. Not by a long shot. It sounds nice, very hi-fi and takes effects really well. It loves distortion. If I ever get into the original thing again and do hard rock/metal/prog whatever, this will be the bass I use. Not a good slapper, but sounds pretty good pizzicato and with a pick.

It looks pretty cool too. I have brought it to rehearsals and gigs with my cover band and gotten a lot of confidence. It doesn't quite have the gut-punch or bottom my jazz bass does, but that thing is an absolute monster and not really a fair comparison. I have pics and junk if anyone is interested.

It was a fun experiment. I didn't go in with high expectations and honestly was just so BORED with everything in my realistic price range that going off the reservation a bit to try something different was really attractive. Probably wouldn't do it again, but it was not by any means a disaster or negative experience

There is nothing anyone can say that can justify buying a rip off, counterfeit bass. Seriously, it's a crime to knowingly buy a counterfeit and I am 100% sure some of these get recycled back into the market as the genuine item.

There are plenty budget options out there that there is no justification for what is truly sketchy behavior.

They really say "Schecter" on the headstock? Wow... :rollno:

I can't wait to see Schecter's lawyers getting at them! :hyper:
not likely to do much good!
"Then there's China's huge industry of counterfeit goods like knock-off watches, handbags, DVDs and smartphones. That costs foreign companies, many of them American, another $20 billion every year."
from a recent CNN opinion piece

If you buy a counterfeit, you're telling yourself (and others) that you don't place value on the hard work of others.

This thread smells a little spammy to me.

I'm believing that Schecter's lawyers do not work in China, so it will do no good. What might work is a floating tariff based upon counterfeits siezed in customs. That's the only thing China seems to respond to.... higher tariffs, or losing ability to export products.

Hi,
I was looking to buy a rather pretty Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Custom-5 Bass.
but unfortunately the company that deals genuine basses does not ship to the uk. However I found on the internet a vastly cheaper replica bass that does.

Does anyone have any experience with this company? Are they as true to original as they claim? Should I just wait and find a genuine Schecter on Ebay?

Genuine Schecter: Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Custom-5 Bass

Replica Schecter: Link Removed

Thanks in advance!

I Would rather buy the real deal Bass used at a reasonable price!
then a fake New at a reasonable price!
