I like the LOTTO bass in general, but I hate the pickguard. I would have done something more like this one that I mocked up - just bolted the bridge pickup directly to the body. Just personal taste I guess.

My curiosity got the best of me, so I did a little digging -


*Warmoth 72 slab body (ash) - $185
*Transparent Turquoise finish - $185
*Maple Tele Bass neck - $180
*Clear gloss finish on neck - $85
*Corian nut - $25
*Pickguard - $30
*Gotoh 201 bridge - $32
*Schaller BML Tuners - $60
*Misc hardware and electronics (strap buttons, pots, switch, etc) - $100


Total = $882

Pickups - ???


This would get you most of the way there. Finished body, neck, and everything but the pickups. I allowed a lot for electronics to cover all the little things + strings. The neck wouldn't have the fancy block inlay or binding at this price, but this should give a good estimate of what it would take to just buy the parts (no labor cost). Prices are direct form Warmoth, so I'm sure you could get some of the hardware cheaper if you shopped around. Just a guesstimate, but let's say you allowed $300 for pickups (!), you would be at $1182, so only a bit over the $1000 budget suggested. This estimate didn't factor in shipping either, but as mentioned, I allowed extra for "misc electronics" and you could get better prices for the bridge, tuners, nut, etc.

Anyway, just having fun crunching some numbers.

I personally think it looks awesome and would love to try it if it was way less in price.

Color wise, it seems to be similar to the SX I just ordered (and should be in in the next day or two!!!)

Actually, the pickguard was quoted from Warmoth for that body. It is slightly different shaped, but is designed for it. They cut them custom.

As for the blocked neck - as I mentioned, I didn't price it. Warmoth doesn't list the price of blocks and bindings on their site as they specifically say "We are making these in small batches for the sake of efficiency and controlled costs" and that is all. They've only been doing them on Jazz necks thus far.

The neck that I priced from Warmoth was their Tele neck, plain maple with dot inlay.

But hey, if you want get down to it, you could buy a Allparts blocked and bound neck for $250 and use that. It would actually cost LESS than the Warmoth neck without blocks, so you'd save money.


As I mentioned in the other post, "This would get you most of the way there". It wasn't meant to give an "identical bass", only to give you something that captured the spirit of the LOTTO bass.

You're taking things way too literally and assumed I was trying to make an "exact clone", when I clearly stated that I wasn't.


However, if you REALLY wanted to make a "nearly exact clone", it could be done for well under $2k. Buy the parts mentioned from Warmoth, the Allparts blocked/bound neck (reshape the headstock if desired - or just spend the $500 for a Warmoth), two Squier Tele basses and gut them for the pickups, etc.. (Dennis Galuska has evidently stated that the pickups are the same.) Heck, since you'd have two "leftover Squiers", you could even sell those to recover a couple hundred bucks and save even more cash.

Would it be a "Fender" or the "LOTTO Bass" ? No, but it would be very, very close - for about $4500 - $5000 less money.

Just sayin'.
