It's hard to come up with something new in the field of music, but the new Chinese Progressive Band Ou (pronounced 'oh') can certainly claim to have done so. I feel that their bass player is someone who deserves a listen. Check out their song 'Mountain'.
Chris Cui is the bassist for OU and both his playing and his tone on 'Mountain' blew me away. This band might be challenging for some - they are throwing very unusual song forms and a lot of dissonance and repeating tension-resolution sections at the listener. Lynn Wu's exotic vocals add a human element and warmth to the chaos. I've listened to 'Mountain' many, many times now and it's become a favorite. I definitely agree that bass players should hear what Chris Cui is doing here.
