Choosing a Mustang

I what to get a Mustang bass, but currently, there are potentially 3 options available: 1. Vintage 2. Reissue CIJ 3. Squier Vintage Modified

How do the CIJ reissues compare to the vintage ones? I have a CIJ Precision and ipthe build quality is utterly amazing, but I really like the fact that I could get something with a maple fingerboard in a vintage or in the Squier.

Thoughts?

Personally, I prefer maple boards, so I'd wait to play the Squier. It looks pretty darn nice and if it makes your ears and hands happy, it might be worth the purchase.

I've played 2 vintage ones and a few CIJ models. The vintage ones were a bit milder and thinner in tone. Still sounded great, but much less output, more laid back and not as growly and punchy. All of the CIJ models that I have played have been very growly and punchy and much more modern sounding.

I don't know if the squiers have been released yet, I haven't seen them on guitar center or musician's friend's websites yet, so you might want to wait to play one of those and see how they sound. I'm in the market for a mustang as my next bass as well. I know I love the CIJ's, and can't afford a vintage model, so I'm waiting to play the squier before I make a decision on either that or a CIJ.

Since we're talking about Mustangs...

I was poking around the Interwebs and came across Invalid Link Removed. They don't have them in stock yet, but at least we have some idea of price.

Personally, I can't wait. I'm going to have to try one out, at the very least.
