Double Bass Chord with bracket

What does it mean when a chord has a bracket with it, i.e. Bb7 [+5] ? As opposed to just Bb7 +5 ?

It's basically the same thing. The brackets ( ) are used by some people to try and add clarity to the writing on the page.

No, no to "Major 5".

What you are referring to is called "Perfect Fifth".

On the short list there is Perfect Unison, Perfect Fourth, Perfect Fifth, Perfect Octave.

When a Perfect interval is raised a half-step, it then becomes Augmented. When it is lowered a half-step, it then becomes Diminished.

I've seen: Bb7+5, Bb7aug5, Bb7(+5), etc.

And, I've seen: Bb7-5, Bb7dim5, Bb7(b5), etc.

It's all over the place with names -- just learn 'em all.
