Does a chorus pedal have to be bass specific?

no, I have found a lot of the "guitar" specific ones to sound quite nice on bass, the stock EHX small clone in particular.

If you are looking for something bass specific, I'd stay away from the Boss model, I slways thought it sounded a bit sterile. Look into the T-Rex one, I love mine:

I'd have to agree here. I own the Boss CEB-3. Eh.

I use a Digitech Multi Voice Bass Chorus and like it, I tried the Boss and it just didn't do it for me....

No, but you may prefer having the mix or dry level control. Some guitar oriented choruses can rob some lows so you'll have to try it and see.
FWIW my fave chorus is on sale in the classifieds Ibanez CS9, lush but not drippy and no robbing of the lows sounds great stereo or mono.

Cool.i have noticed bass ones are way more expensive than guitar ones.

I've got a Neo Clone. Like a Small Clone, but uh, smaller. Worlds better than the Boss. Not as good as the Rex but you can get them on eBay for under $60 all day long. I got mine from a TB'er.

I have also have one. Even though there's a bit of low-end loss, I still like it more than the CEB-3 I've using for 2 years.

To get back on topic, some choruses seem work better with bass than others: Analogman, MXR chorus (the big yellow pedal). So no, they don't have to be bass specific.

Well, I tried the tech 21 chorus on bass, sounding quite bad compared to their bass chorus.

I have an old Ibanez SC 10 from the 80s and it sounds fantastic with my bass.

Just stay away from the digital stuff. Digital chorus sounds clammy, vapid, and all around cheesy and fake... Matter of fact, that's the experience I've had with most digital pedals on bass; Sounds like I'm playing Nintendo instead of bass....

Lol, I'm after some digital sounds. We get the bass sounding like a synth at times. Once I add an octave pedal it will be awesome.
