Chris Squire: Fender Jazz Bass Content

As a huge fan of Chris Squire I always knew he pulled out a Jazz from time to time, but I'd never seen any videos of him playing it. Well, here you go. Maybe this is just interesting to me, but I thought it was worth a post. Sounds way, way different from his usual Rickified sound.

There's a bunch of footage from the Going For The One sessions on YouTube, and some of it shows Squire using a Jazz to track "Parallels." Might be what's on the finished track.

The last time I saw Chris (August 7, 2013) he played the Jazz Bass; I don't recall which song.

If they did the 3 albums CTTE, GFTO and The Yes Album, he would have used the Jazz on Parallels and A Venture, I think.

And Jon Anderson playing an electric - don't think I've seen that before!

Also, is it me, or did Patrick Moraz miss a beat coming off the intro and they had to adjust?

As a person who can't seem to decide on a main bass, I'm super impressed Chris played the same handful of basses throughout his career. The idea that he had been playing that same Rick since 1965, a year before I was born, astounds me. How many times did it have to be re-fretted? He played that same Jazz since the early 70's too. I started playing in 1980 and I've probably had 80 basses since my original 1978 Fender Precision. I would love to still have that bass...mostly for nostalgic reasons, it was a piece of crap. I'd love to have my Ricks back too, but that's a whole different story.

When they go to Bb, I think Alan White got the beat turned around for a few bars. You can see Chris turn and look at Alan, showing him the downbeats.
