That's so odd, considering the Tormato liner notes for "Release Release" explicitly mention a Gibson Thunderbird on that one tune.

That old marshall head he used his whole career is probably back there somewhere, its not the bass..its what its being run through. That was his sound.

The Jazz was already in use on "Tales From Topographic Oceans" on the track "The Ancient" and he used it on that tour too (at least in the first part when they played all 4 sides of the album). So the bass is a '73 or older.

That list has some misinformation.

"Going For The One" is the white 4008 prototype.
"Turn Of The Century" is a Gibson Triumph.
"Awaken" was played only live with the three-necked Wal, the studio version had the 4008, a fretless Guild (the same he used on "Tales") and a fretted 4-string (can't recall what it was, maybe the usual Ric).
The whole of "Tormato" was the Ric expect "Release, Release" (Thunderbird).
"Run Through The Light" has Trevor Horn on bass (fretless Aria SB100 maybe?), Chris plays the piano.

Chris Squire plays a Fender Jazz Bass, and whilst he primarily is known for playing his beloved Rickenbacker 4001, he also played a natural 1972 Fender Jazz Bass. It was mostly used on the track To Be Over from Relayer.



Chris Squire says about the Fender Jazz in this video for Premier Guitars (5:30), "I've used that quite a bit on Yes recordings over the years... it's on 'Parallels'..."

This photo of Chris Squire's bass collection shows the Jazz Bass with its round pickup cover. I am assuming his family still owns most, if not all, of these basses. That's all I know about Squire's Jazz Bass.
