I thought the precedent for falling on stage was established by the Who at Live Aid. At one point towards the end of their set (just about the time Entwistle started getting his **** together with his troublesome Alembics), Townshend went to do a very heroic kick and ended up flat on his back in front of a global audience of several million people. Daltrey immediately threw himself to the floor and they rolled around like it was all on purpose. Squire should have just done another huge dive and people would have loved it. I kind of feel bad for teh Rickenbacker, though.
I loved Yes in my misspent youth, but they really are the silliest band of all time. Jon Anderson's stage announcements alone would guarantee that. One night, when we were playing at a club in Barcelona, Yes was playing at the larger space below us so we snuck down to watch their show. The club was called Zeleste (it's something different now) and Anderson says (in full-on Mickey Mouse voice)"I don't know the name of this venue..." (about 1,000 people yell out "Zeleste!")... Anderson: "I say, I don't know the name of this venue..("Zeleste!")... but tonight this is the House Of Yes!"- fist aloft, impish grin, Steve Howe looking like the Crypt Keeper.
