Wow, it doesn't seem half that long.

Nearly every person can be replaced after they're gone - even among the famous.

There are a few exceptions. Hitch stood alone at the top of his profession, and after 5 years, no one has filled the void he left behind.
 
It was listening to him SPEAK that I will miss the most. Very few intellectuals can make the articulation of language sound like music the way he did. It was a true pleasure.

I'll bump this observation.

Also add that while I too am "anti-theist" like Hitch, I do think he overstates his case when he denies the Catholic church
any redeeming values. They did it begrudgingly, and haltingly, but the church did in fact help advance science at its own ultimate peril. Hitch never got called disputed on that not-inconsequential contribution to his beloved science.


There's a great six hour long tape of his on youtube, sometimes I saw wood through it all night! and should I wake up, it is always to something compelling :thumbsup:
