Chrome Update? Or just me?

So I was just cruising around online when suddenly Chrome, my preferred browser, just closes itself out. When I reopened it, there is a new youtube button next to the minimize/restore/close buttons that wants me to sign into google and I keep getting random pop up ads and crap on different sites, including TB. Anyone else having this happen? If this is a google thing, than it looks like I'm switching back over to Firefox.

A few months ago, Firefox caused my home computer to have many problems and I had to delete all Firefox sources in the system. I started to use Google Chrome and it runs poorly and randomly closes and reboots. So, you are not alone with this problem.

You have adware. The browser isn't relevant, although it may be adware specifically targeted to Chrome, most of the time adware does something annoying to all the major browsers.

Run some anti-virus/anti-adware software. The free stuff will work.

OK, I do run malwarebytes, Avast, and CCleaner fairly often, but I guess it is about time for another go through. What struck me as odd is that little extra sign in to YouTube/Google button in the upper right corner. I'll update you guys when I get home from work and run all my anti-virus stuff. Thanks for the info.

+1 to this. Sometimes things sneakily install the thing to your browser.
I use various distributions of Chrome (not just stock) on PCs of various age and power, on Windows and Linux. It performs perfectly on all my systems. Every time I noticed a hiccup I could trace the cause to an addon. Add to that the fact that addons get sneakily installed on Windows if you're not careful, are not detected or removed by antiviruses, and have access to your browsing habits (thereby, passwords etc) and you see why there are many malicious addons out there.

Automated detection of malicious addons is a hot topic in program analysis and computer security. Mozilla is investing a lot in this. We simply don't have any easy solutions.

So heres a pic of my browser, I ran malwarebytes and it found plenty of garbage which I got rid of and all the adware problems went away, but I still have this little but chilling up there bugging the crap out of me, but it seems legit. Anyone else have that?

I do. My Google account name is written there. Your profile name is 'You', I guess?

Where does it take you when you click the button?

-Mike
It just brings up a little window that displays my Google sign-in info, showing my e-mail address, and giving me the options to switch users and go incognito.

Yessir. Knowing that there is someone else with that makes me feel better. Its just that it showed up at the same time as I was getting a bit of an adware attack rang some alarm bells for me.

Thanks guys.
