How far away from the speaker are you? I've moved closer to the speaker and have it going in a direction toward the rest of the band. Kind of diffuses the sound and blends better with the other instruments. What I have noticed is that if my cabinet is facing out toward the crowd it seems louder and I get the "turn it down" looks
