That is the best solution I've played with but It all depends on how many instruments on stage, and what you are playing. I am not a big fan of inear with a butt-kicker . . . just felt gimmicky . . . Small monitor wedge was fine. As someone else pointed out though . . . the big issue for music in church is the drums.

Yeah. Drums. I'm in a southern gospel band that plays a lot of small local churches. We use an electronic kit with a real snare. Easy to transport and it actually sounds pretty good.

Electronic drums have not gotten to the point with real drums that electronic keyboards have vs real pianos, but they are getting close. And there is nothing wrong with a "simple" kit.

You'll find it about 6 posts before the one you quoted above. For Noble Pre to FOH anyhow.
I have run PF-20T -> FOH.
My practice rig at home is Noble pre -> PF-20T -> Fender Neo 410
Some (Tim Lefebvre, etc) run the Noble pre into an SVT (in large venues).

If I need overdrive, I take both the Noble pre and the PF-20T, and run the Noble into the PF-20T to FOH.

So this is my basic setup at church, pictured directly below, everything running direct to FOH, IEMs (actually I've been using Sony Studio headphones) -

For outdoor gigs - PF-20T -> Crest Prolite 2.0 DSP -> Fender Bassman 410 Neo(s)

In the instance pictured above I'm running both preamp out and transformer balanced line out to the Crest power amp. Could take one to FOH, one to Crest.
Transformer balanced line out is where it's at! Only the SVT-VR and the PF-20T/50T have this (afaik).

Jesus would like you to go VTDI into your IEM and put the rest of the budget to good works.

JimmyM did a poll of his recording test to pick out VT vs tubes and only 75% picked right. 50% would have got it right without even listening so pretty clear your average punter in pew 6 won't notice you skimped a little.

There really are alot of good solid state options these days, with the Ampeg SCR-DI and the Mesa Subway DI-Preamp, VTDI, Aguilar ToneHammer, etc etc.

For a long time I used a tuner pedal, Markbass Compressore, and a Markbass Super Booster DI to FOH. Worked great. You can get those pedals on GC Used, and if you don't like them you have 30-45 days to return them for a full refund.

I'm playing IEM's and have been for years now and I've used a number of different preamps. Most recently I've been using the Tech 21 Bass Fly Rig for several months now... I bought it and really was sure I was not going to like it which was caused by talkbass induced analysis paralysis. But it has been quite the opposite, I really do like it. I use everything it has except the octave effect. Previously I had a Pedal Train Nano that had a (on all the time) SansAmp VT Bass 2.0 and tuner with a few other pedals going on and coming off that seldom ever got used.

Now with that said I'm on the hunt for a B15 style preamp and am pretty close to settling on the Broughton P15 but I'm impatient and don't want to wait for him to build it. I do have the option of putting a bass amp in the back room and I have numerous large diaphragm dynamic mics to stick in front of it. I also have a very unique situation where I don't have to transport the amp back and forth but also do not have to leave it in the church building, so an actual B15 or other low wattage tube amp is not out of the question. This thread has piqued my interest in a few other things to check out!

Not 100% sure where I'm going except to put a plug in for the SansAmp stuff. It's not actual tube circuitry but man is it versatile. I have been using a Radial JDI to get to the board for years as well but when I first got the BFR I used the XLR output with zero complaints for about the first month. It's a really compact and highly useful multi-effect that I'd use in any situation without hesitation.

One closing note on IEM's and my specific setup. I do have custom quad driver IEM's and when I bought them I also bought what I consider to be a pretty serious headphone amp. My IEM's bring all the correct bass freqs and kick drum booty I could ever want. The last time I played a pretty good size outdoor gig with my AE410 I swore I'd try to use IEM's the next time as it was a pretty miserable experience with the guitar player. Where IEM related hearing damage is concerned; I have permanent hearing damage, albeit minimal and what I truly like about IEM's is to be able to get a great mix at any volume grab the mast fader for my mix and turn the whole thing down or to my liking. It is a more controlled environment with tons of available dynamics if properly set up so I think they help and not further aggravate my hearing situation.

I have not personally used either of the above units. I have one of his B-150 amplifiers which has the same preamp as the rack mount version. It is superb.

So my church is in the process of building a new building and we have funds set back for a new bass rig. What would your opinions be?

I'm thinking REDDI to FOH and use in ear monitors on or going with a Ampeg PF 50T with 1X15 or 2X110 and running from the amp head DI to FOH. I like having an amp on stage to feel it however I know with this route the amp on stage will have very little volume in order for FOH to mix right.

I am leaning towards the REDDI solution. But I would love to hear any input!

I've never run into any other format that has a greater range of requirements than worship bands. This is because some churches, the songs are the sermons. These have full bands and gear to support the volume needed. Some others, like mine, the songs are not the sermon. Additionally, the pastor also views instruments as fill/support for the choir. He wants the message in the song to take front and center.

So, your thoughts about a REDDI is probably the most versatile solution (or other DI boxes). The only exception would be my church as an example. Our board is small and all the channels are filled up already. The bass and drums don't feed into the PA.

If that Ampeg PF 50T is anything like my Marshall 50watt head with 2x12, that would cover almost all situations in my church.

I use a Broughton P-15 and Inearz IEMs. Sounds awesome. I'll bring a REDDI occasionally.

Well depending on your churches exact denomination. Considerations should also include infinite baffle cabinet designs as ported enclosures can be hazardous in certain denominational circumstances.

You can't be too careful.

Get a AMPEG BA210 v2 Amp a BOSS TU-3 tuner and a Fender Downtown Express Pedal. Hook up and THO DOWN! Stay away from tubes their just too expensive.
