Cicadas are back!

After 17 years they're having another go in the midwest.

In the planet earth documentaries they seem to be quite helpful to the environment when all is said and done.

I'm happy I don't have to deal with the sound. Any midwesterners out there seeing these guys?

I heard one and it sounded Alien. My friend was attacked by a swarm of horny cicadas. And they are REALLY LOUD.

Cicada's are really a very cool insect, and one of the least bothersome ones to have around. They keep out of sight for 17 years at a time, right? They don't bite or sting. They aren't considered pests, make neat music with drum-like membranes in their bellies, and are a valuable source of food for many groups of people.

Cicadas are sweet.

We have tons around here. Not too many in my immediate neighborhood, but last evening we stopped at a relatives in Lombard IL. The sound was deafening and they were swarming everywhere.

Shook a tree the kids were standing under and the Cicadas came raining down on us. Yeah .. I probably scarred them for life as they ran away screaming, but it was fun anyway.
