Cigar Box Bass Build

All done!:hyper:

I installed the Powerchip, and it works beautifully! Here are some photos--sorry about the bad lighting, I've gotta pack for the weekend, so I had to rush...

Wiring, just before closing 'er up:

And how it looks strapped on:

I'll get clips up as soon as I can, probably next week. As a teaser, let me just say that it does everything I'd hoped, so I'm very happy!:D

Really cool!

My dad made me a really nice cigar sized box out of either oak or ash and now I am wondering if I can perhaps put it to better use if I made a cigar box guitar or bass out of it!

If I used this box, I better make sure it is of "Botique" quality once I am done! Would like to properly honor the work and effort he did making the box in the first place.

Ever think of making one of these with the hinged door in back so you could open it up more easily to store you cords and stuff and more easily change the batteries?

That would not be a bad idea. If they only made the back of the box look as cool as the front, I would certainly do that! I am dreading the first time I have to change the battery, though. What I might end up doing is cutting a small battery door in the back and affixing a hinge and clasp so that I can access it easily.

My second box bass was an easier solution, as it was a big enough box that everything (neck support, wiring, jack) were all able to fit within the lid, so the box can still be opened, and even used for cable storage/transport!

Hey! I am building a cigar box bass with an extremely similar design. The only problem is that I can't find an accurate measurment for the bracing. Can you post your measurments? I have an identical box and each time I try getting the bracing cut, it always doesn't fit quite right. Please let me know what I should do.
Thanks!

I'd love to help! However, I've loaned this bass out to my brother-in-law for a while. When I get it back, I'll see what I can do. I'm not sure what good my measurements will do you though, since you'll likely have a different box and a different neck. I pretty much had to make it up as I went along, measuring and remeasuring before I made cuts, then screwing it up and trying again until I got it right!

Let me know how you make out! I'd love to see another one out there...

Thanks man. The box I am using is almost identical to yours. I have been working to get the bracing right, but i keep having to scrap it and start over. What kind of wood did you use? (thickness, ply or solid, ect.)
