Clamping

I have been meaning to ask about clamping pressure (how much is enough - too much) and how to decide how many clamps I need. Today, this link showed up in my inbox:

Seems to be good advice for modern synthetic glues. I would probably not clamp so hard if using hide glue.

I never thought hard about over clamping. Personally, I always tightened my clamps as tight as I could without leaving huge marks in the wood.

I tend to give it as much as I possibly can, like it says in the article.......... Just like there can never be too much awesome

But then again, I really don't use hide, just TB2

3" to 4" between clamps to avoid glue lines, enough pressure to close the joint fully. My guidelines.
