Class D size vs standardization

Something we do a lot at work (not audio related business) for 19" rackmount stuff that doesnt have rack ears is to get a rackmount shelf and drill holes that line up with mounting feet holes on the bottom of the unit. Works just fine for a $10K oscilloscope.

Adding the obligatory caution that the length of the screws is somewhat critical in some areas, specifically the front feet. Why do I feel the need for this caution you might ask? I just finished working on an amp last week where somebody felt that longer screws would be better when installing a rack kit on a Shuttle amp and ran a screw right through a couple of caps on the PCB... the first 2 caps that I have replaced in almost a year!!!

This is a great way to rackmount non-rackmount equipment.
It seems that the manufactures respond to the market and the market has for a long time wanted an amp that fits in their gig bag, now we have several, that's not a bad thing for old guys like me that don't want to schlep a huge rig around.
