I like both, but my favorite is something in the middle that combines elements of classic with modern. I just can't resist pretty woods and fancy electronics! Plus, I find it works better for my style. That being said, my next two basses will be a P or a PJ setup to use with flatwounds and a boutique semi-acoustic fretless. However, I'm broke and that will be a while! (Plus, I'd like to get me a flugelhorn first--I play trumpet/cornet too!)

I go for a modern look with a versatile (both modern and classic) tone. I don't have anything against vintage instruments, but I hardly see myself playing a Fender-style instrument.

That's me too.

I've always been a modern/modern kind of a guy. My newest bass, I'm thinking, will be mostly modern..... hand built, neck thru, Nordstrand MM 5.3, a big split, and a Nordy pre. It should have the ability to go passive but I'm unsure if that would even sound "classic". I have been gassing for a Mayones Jabba 5 or some other 5 string 24 fret jazzer, though.
