Classifieds bumping out of control.

Is it just me or is the bumping in the classifieds section insane. People are bumping everyone elses threads clogging up the section. People are responding to the bumps with "thanks" and other junk, ie additional bumps. It seems like every time I take a peek at the section, there is a full page of new posts and they are all the same basses that I've already seen. The rules say one bump every 24 hours and they don't seem to be enforced at all.

The rule is one bump every 24 hours by the original poster.

It is a way to get a little extra exposure for the item, but since other users have the right to comment in classifieds, and the OP has the right to reply to other's comments, I'm not sure how you can get around it without extreme censorship. That sure would keep the mods busy.

Personally, I don't think it's all that annoying or cumbersome. I like to see TB classifieds succeed, it keeps this a good place to buy sell and trade, and if some free bumps help accomplish that, it's a small price to pay.

I have seen some of the more conscientious classified users actually go in and delete some of their own bumps to clean up the thread a bit.

With the ability to delete posts in the for sale section, I have noticed on person in particular who has been bumping 2x a day for some time. I noticed because I am looking for what he is selling, but his price is insane!

I think Clogging is an apt description. Post your stuff and let it go. IF the price is good it will move on its own, if it is too high priced or not anything people want it will fall down to where it belongs.

A bump is not just a post that says “bump” or “Monday morning bump” or “bumpaboo”, but ANY POST that does not feed the thread with relevant information. Examples include, but are not limited to:

- “C’mon guys, this is a wonderful bass!”
- “Get it quick or I’ll put it on eBay”
- “No-one, really ?”
- “PM replied”

I'm all for the classifieds section being successful, and have sold and am looking to buy, but I think it's a bit out of hand.

Maybe there could be a feature to sort by new listings only or something?

Or maybe I'm just in a bad mood!

I agree that sometimes it's obvious that, even though it's not the word "bump," it's just an attempt to get a free bump without adding anything substantial.

But if someone comments on the item in a way that warrants a valid response for acknowledgement, clarification, or elaboration, those seem legit to me.

Examples:

"Nice bass. Is that the original finish?"

"Nice bass, I have one, what a workhorse."

"Nice bass, really gets that Marcus Miller tone."

I mean, the purpose of the classifieds is to move gear from one person to another. I think people should be able to take advantage of a legitimate opportunity to promote, expound upon, and sell their item.
