Cleaning bare maple..

i'm pretty sure that i'm going to have to sand it (3M greenpad).. but, is there a good way to clean this.. i've read some suggestions of Murphy's Oil Soap..

the fretboard is just as bad..

would a light chem stripper do it?? like Citrustrip??

any help would be great..

I think Murphy's Oil Soap would work but the wood would absorb LOTS of water which would be a really bad thing. I'm guessing it's not bare maple but actually an oil finish with most of the finish worn off. So my strategy would be to remove the surface grime with something like a scotch brite pad, but not sand it and consider the ground in dirt to be natural patina. Then rub in a new oil finish coat with watco oil or tru-oil thinned with watco oil.
