Cleaning your Ric?

Hey guys! Recently just bought my Rickenbacker. I wanted to know if there's a specific cleaner I can and cant use when cleaning ric's? The finish on this is perfect and so is the neck and If I want to clean it can I use any guitar cleaner or string cleaner? I dont want to use something that will damage the color or neck or take off the finish. If anything really is ok let me know! Thanks!

Typically, I play it until it gets gunky. Then I pull out the Zymol and polish it. I don't use anything other than elbow grease, Zymol and a diaper rag you can get at an auto store.

I don't use sprays or anything like that on it. I don't see the point.

I'm really weird about cleaning my basses....probably a tad too anal, but what the hell...anyway, I use Dunlop formula No. 65 Guitar polish and cleaner...and that's it. Except that I ALWAYS use a cloth diaper on the guitars...

Why Dunlop? Easy. A while back a rep gave me a case of the stuff...

But seriously, works like a charm!

I've managed to keep a 13 yr old Ric guitar, (jetglo) clean and new looking, using nothing but the cloth that comes with it in the case. Zymol is recomended by Ric, but daily wipe-downs seem to keep it shiny new for years.

I use Martin Guitar Polish and a microfiber cloth on all of my basses. They come out looking like a shiny new penny.

I cleaned my Ric religiously for about a year after I got it, But I think all the Blood Sweat & Beer caked on it for the past 5 years makes it look better than the fake looking road worn fenders out there...

I use what ever polish is in the music store at the time when I need some. Right now I am using Martin polish. I always use a polishing cloth. gets the job done

I give mine a wipe down with a microfiber cloth each time I play it, just before it goes back in the rack. Keeps it nice and happy.

I've used Martin Guitar Polish and it's given me excellent results over the years...on all my basses...except my Ric (which is jetglo) Black is the worst color on cars to show imperfections, I'd imagine guitars/basses are the same. Anyway, my Ric seems to prefer a dusting with Endust (not Pledge or any other furniture polish) applied directly to a cloth diaper, not to the instrument itself. Let it set up a couple of minutes, then buff lightly to a nice shine.
