Here we go...

I asked Cliff a few months ago if it would be possible to have the bass in hand on May 1st because our band was holding a large concert event on that date. He made it happen. I picked up the bass Wednesday morning and unboxed it at the venue. Probably not the wisest move to just plug it in and play the concert without even having the chance to go through the different settings but that is exactly what I did. I played it flat in single coil mode (which I thought was actually dual coil wired in parallel). As soon as I played the first note during sound check, I could here the astounding difference in sound compared to my old bass. Warm and fat while still managing to be extremely articulate which is exactly what I told Cliff was my tone goal. The action was perfect as well, especially being that the fretboard is flat. The fastest and easiest bass I ever played. The 32" scale and 16.5mm string spacing has me me playing faster and cleaner than ever!

I got the chance in the past few days to go through all the settings of the bass. With the 3 way switch for both pickups, there are many different tonal options to choose from. My favorite, being that I play more jazz/swing style music, is both pickups wired in series with the treble rolled off. Dark, warm, and fat.

The 15 month wait was more than worth it. I got a bass that is uniquely me both aesthetically and sonically. Cliff was amazing through the whole process. Patient and extremely responsive. That, alone, is worth its weight in gold. If anyone is on the fence about going with Cliff, do yourself a favor and just pull the trigger. Absolutely worth it. Mahalo nui e Cliff!
