Cliff Burton Delay

Yes, yet another cliff burton thread by yours truly

Today I was messing around with the delay in Logic Pro, and found it hard to obtain something similars to cliff's delay in the lyceum.

My question would what would be the right setting for a delay to achieve something similar and so heavenly sounding, like cliff's at the lyceum?

Sounds like a pretty short delay, almost any delay pedal would be able to recreate that for you. Just add fuzz and wah!

To me it sounds like a long delay since it sounds like the sound of the first Arpeggio gets taken all the way to the second Arpeggio

Doesn't sound like a really long delay to me either. Nothing super crazy, any digital delay could do it, just have the delay time right or tap tempo it.

Does the delay have a tap function? Otherwise you could just play around with the delay time to get it close. Sounds like pretty low feedback/repeats.

Later Cliff uses an Ibanez 1500 digital delay:

Background of his rackmount rig there.

They aren't anything special, so no need to find one. He also probably used a boss DM-2.

I'd find a digital delay (the one in logic/garageband is fine) and you're basically matching two key settings:

Time
Repeats

The other settings aren't as important initially. You can tweak them to match after you get time and repeats set correctly.

He has the time set so that it repeats in 8th notes (to me) or maybe dotted 8ths- but that is a function of tempo.

then he has a bunch of repeats, I hear at least 3 of the original note, and the repeats are fairly loud.

Turns it off by 12:12.

Never used Logic, but I'm pretty sure it must have a way to tap tempo into the bpm settings of the project (in other DAWs you tap it with the space bar). And then you can sync your delay to the bpm.

And it's a default in logic's delay.

In most DAWs including Logic, you set project or bar tempo and then you can pick intervals for the digital delay. Or you can pick ms of delay (which is harder for eighth note delays, but easier for certain effects).
