Was thinking about cliff's playing today
A lot of folks get inspired to play by very acrobatic or technical players. Me? Hearing solid 'boring' players like Cliff and Ian Hill make me want to play.

Being more of a "lead" player myself, I am always impressed by the steady, simple playing of guys like Cliff. Genius in its simplicity especially the counter-melody-like feel when he keeps riding that one note when the guitars change.

It's a Precision. With rounds.
I believe he also used rounds with the Stingray when on tour.
He plays both a 'Ray and a P, but I've read in more that one interview that he hates playing rounds or "wires" as he calls them.
Curious, what makes you think they're rounds?
On that tour and that gig where the isolated track is from he used a P-bass. To me it sounds like roundwound strings.
I recall an interview from Bass Player in '96 when they had recorded "Ballbreaker" and Cliff had started to use the Stingray again he said he used flats in the studio but used rounds for live work.
That was in 1996 so he might have abandoned the rounds for live work too later.

I love listening to Ian Hill. Both his "easy" stuff and his more interesting stuff. His live tone is just a freight train.

I wanted to see them when they came here in November but the dates just didn't work out. I hope I haven't missed my only chance!
Hearing Ian Hill in concert 2 months ago made me want a Spector bass!
