Clipped a string too short. But how short is too short?

Just put my first set of Sunbeams on my L2K, and accidentally clipped the E too short. It does not even wrap around one time, but it seems stable. What ill effects could come from a string too short? - Q

There is a chance it will slip out. You generally want it to wrap around at least 2 or 3 times.

It will stretch some so it might work. You might as well try it.

I cut strings four finger-widths past the tuner post.

I have the rest at 2 1/2 wraps, measured with my iPhone minus an inch. Just flubbed that E. I kept looking for a guide on how to figure the proper amount to cut and couldn't find much. I remember a long time ago someone showed me a trick that I've long since forgot. Something about bending the string back and using another tuning post as the point to clip it. Anyone know the specifics on this technique?

What I've always done on four in a row headstock is...string the G 1st and what excess I length I leave on that tuning peg is what the rest of the strings get. Since the G string will have the least amount of excess string, because it's further from the bridge. That way all pegs have the same amount of wraps...but I'm OCD about stuff like that.

2-3 wraps is ideal... I have a set of chromes on my jazz bass that I strung thru-body and the G string only wraps 1.5 times around... bugs the crap out of me (the guy that did my setup did the re-stringing, not me) but so far it hasn't posed any issues.
