Clipping toggle switch mod questions

If I wire an On/Off/On DPDT toggle selector (with LEDs on one side & nothing on the other) to diodes on a PCB instead of removing them, will I end up with
On(nothing)/Off(stock diodes)/On(LEDs)

or will I get

On/(stock diodes)/Off(stock diodes)/On(diodes & LEDs)?

Does that question make sense?

If you just add the switch and leds, you will get the second option...if you want the first one, you have to disconnect the stock ones(at least at one end), so you can route the signal in a way wich bypasses the stock diodes....essentially you have to remove them and put them on the switch on one side(ON side, not OFF) to get the first option

I would put the stock diodes on one side (on), led on the other side (on), and then wire the middle two lugs of the switch to the board where the diodes were originally. This will give you stock(up)/none(middle)/leds(down).

That's the plan, Gero.

At first I bought all the pieces to do the LED/diode/MOSFET mod, but a bag of stuff was thrown away at our studio & it contained all the oarts I had bought to do that. Since I'd have to reorder the MOSFETs I'll skip them. Stock sound cool, LEDs are what I know I want to be an option, & I don't care enough to wait on & pay for MOSFETs. No diodes may sound cool; a boost type of option will be cool, since removing these will give a noticeable volume increase, I believe.

What pedal are you modding? No diodes will give a volume increase, but it doesn't always sound good (and probably won't be clean). Depends on the type of circuit.

It doesn't reduce the gain that much

Yeah, I figured. I've used no diodes in a tubescreamer clone. It kinda surprised me at first how much gain there was already in the circuit. Between no diodes and the Ruetz mod, I'd say that there's a larger gain decrease doing the Ruetz mod than using no diodes. Again, seems counterintuitive to me hahaha

Right now, it's a Rat next it will be either a muff or a ts.

Btw, on an unrelated subject: Ryan, you were right to suggest I build my own clone of a Tone Bender/Civil War Muff. I've got a lot of extra parts & a dead USA muff.
