RIP Clive, even though he said, while turning down Frank Zappa, “No Commercial Potential”.

There are myriad artists who have said that he ruined their chances of success after signing them. No one bats 1000.

Clive Davis was arguably the most powerful figure in the music industry. A lot of people don’t know that Arista also released a lot of very successful soundtracks: The Bodyguard, Waiting To Exhale and Boys On The Side were just some of the significant soundtrack albums Arista released in the nineties (and which took the careers of Whitney Houston and her alleged cousin, Dionne Warwick, to the bank, as both were signed to Arista).
