I'm cranky in my old age.

Man I came real close to losing some gear. I always thought I lived in a really safe area.

Last Saturday Night someone tried to break into my house. They were unsuccessful but it could have been bad. They even busted out a back window. Good thing we have an alarm system.

I can not imagine loosing my gear.

On a worse note we are a little scared they might come back.

I guess the Shotgun may get some dusting off.

My neighbor lost his gear a couple of years ago. I live a 2 minutes drive away from farm land and 4 men who live in my neighborhood broke into his house an stole computers, pedals, and mixers. Luckily our neighbor likes to dig threw everybody's business and knew that the thieves had stolen things from others in our neighborhood before and called the cops. The thieves were lucky they didn't go diggin threw my friends house cause they would have lost limbs, or died. Nobody goes threw his house without havin at least one gun(shotgun, rifle, ect.) pointed in their face once or twice. I prefer a baseball bat or dagger though, they're a little more scary than a shotgun.
They probably won't come back because of your alarm though.

BTW they did not set the alarm off but if they would have made a it a little further it would have been tripped.

So I find out Friday after going around the house the idiots came back and tried another window. Not sure when this happened. If I catch them they will have holes to deal with.

do they have the "Castle-Law" in the state you reside in?

I know NY law says that if someone tries to rob you, and you manage to blast a leg off and they survive, you can be sued. So sadly, as my law teacher in high school said... "Make sure you kill them" xD Also, if they are in the process of climbing in the window, and you gun em, and they fall outside... You better drag that body inside or you will be in major trouble for murder. Your best bet is to wait for them to enter, and clear of window before you pop a cap or two. However, by posting this on a public forum, you are showing intent of premeditated murder. So.... yeah.. tough hole. I mean, I am pretty sure you have the right to acknowledge the legality of the situation and as long as you are protecting your family, and own self.. then you should be okay. Oh.. and let us not forget that you have to equal or less force. Bring a gun to a knife fight can you into trouble too. Perhaps.. Just leave the light off, and trip wire that will cause the floor to open up as the criminal will plummet down 20 feet into a pit of a very very very hungry Andy Milonakis :)

Yes I see where you're coming from. I do not intend to ever harm anyone for any reason.

My Wife and my Daughter mean more to me than life itself.

If my heart is beating and I have two functioning brain cells there will be trouble for anyone threatening any of my family.

You may want to think about some video cameras. You can get some fairly inexpensive systems that will record to DVR. Also leave the outside lights on or get the motion sensing kind. And put the sign up out front that says you have an alarm.

Someone was just mentioning to me yesterday that they expected burglaries to go up because of the economy.

We still need to do a bass day.

I had the Alarm company signs and stickers posted everywhere. I'm not sure what these idiots were thinking.

I have some cameras running as we speak and I added some more features to my alarm system.

Yeah we need to get together most definitely.

That's good they didn't get in, but bad that they're being persistent. Cameras systems are getting really really cheap, I should look into those.
I want to find a motion alarm that sounds like a BIG MEAN dog growling.

Saturday night a car parks up the hill on the side of the road from my house. My Son came out and they left.

An hour or so later he looks out and they are back. He called the Police. They came out and talked to them. I've not heard back from them but this seems a little fishy to me.

Oh in GA, I'm not sure about the castle law in that state. I lived in ATL for 10 years and currently in Lex, KY.

GA and NY are vastly different



As far as getting DVR cameras.... not sure how close a brandsmart is to you, but for $175-$225, you can get a decent 2-4 camera 500gb DVR system that hooks up easy.

The persistent part is what is scary in these situations. In my experience this indicates one of two likely motivators: a) they somehow know you and have particular items they are interested in stealing or b) they are on drugs and don't care if you are home or not.

My thought is that if someone breaks into your house and they know you are home they have no problem with hurting anyone. That may not be the initial intention but things can escalate very quickly. **** the particulars, blast away and sort it out later. Hopefully the local PD make an arrest before anything else happens.

Too bad you don't live in Texas. We shoot criminals in the back in our neighbors yards :smug:

I really have to disagree with this. A dagger or a bat is more scary than the sound of a racking 12 gauge?! A gun that shoots many angry balls of lead, and that you don't have to aim all that well? I think there was a study that proved that a shotgun racking is the #1 deterrent, over alarms and dogs...etc.

I prefer a pistol, 40 caliber with hydra-shocks.

Tell the officers you retreated with the family to a place of safety, after dialing 911. Explain you were in fear of your lives. Where you retreat (bass/amp room) is fine.
Remind them there were frightening repeat attempts by these crazed criminals! I presume you have made reports on the attempts. Do not go out and confront parkers in cars, that have a legal right to park on city/county maintained roads.
Just call the authorities re your concerns.
Maintain good homeowners insurance, or something like musicpro if you leave gear at a separate studio.
Don't forget to train with your Glock!
