Thank you, kind sir. I couldn't help but notice your superb HB while cruising the Lakland club earlier. They do look fine in gold! I played a Bart-equipped 3TSB for a while. Thought about putting 'Stars in it, but didn't. They work very well in this JB-2. Talk about Fender on steroids. The E and A strings are fine on a 'normal' jazz, but the D and G can be thin in comparison. The Dark Stars bring heft and authority to the upper strings. But you already know this so I'll stop 'preaching to the choir'.

Yes agreed.
The upper strings have major OOOMPH with my HB.
I love sitting like 4 foot in front of the huge Mesa Stack in a small room with the gain at like 2:00 or so and holding notes here and there to get swells and amazing feedback out of the Dstar HB.
A monster bass. I love it.

Juan Alderete had Dark Stars on a bass (Lakland?) that bit hard. In fact, you can see them right here! Hard to hear though, what a shame. Surely these sexy things cost a fortune?

I'm going on 18 months without a pickup that I paid for.
Jimmy at Landing knew I wanted a Dark Star for my Precision Bass, so he contacted immediately after Fred told him he was taking orders for pickups. I paid Jimmy, and Jimmy sent that money on to Fred -- then no pickup comes.
There has been plenty of correspondence between them, as the Dark Star Landing basses are very popular.
Fred's flash of posts in October 2012, mark the third time he has promised to get my pickup to Jimmy. He and Jimmy exchanged emails at the weeks after, and Fred assurred Jimmy that it would be no problem. Yet here we are in 2013 and I still have no pickup.
FRED - Please follow through with your promises. These continued promises and false starts are bad enough for us fans -- but it's even worse for the few of us that have already paid. I sent my money and order only because you welcomed it, so please fulfill your commitment to sending me what I long ago paid for.
I am sorry for this public communication, but I sent Fred an PM here and Jimmy has emailed him to follow up, but Fred has yet to respond to any if our messages.

I thought Fred would start again building his pickups when I saw his postings here months ago. Too bad.
Yeah, me too. Fred even offered to help me with my Bisonic replicas -which I thought was well beyond the call of duty - but after his initial message it all went quiet.
I just got an email from Curtis Novak saying that he's very close to having a Bisonic/Dark Star ready to go, most likely in a few months. I've got a P-bass that is itching to try it out!

So, figured I'd throw this up here. Sorry for the poor picture quality. Anyways, I finally got around to wiring my Jazz for stereo output. Each pickup now goes to its own stacked tone/volume and then to its own output. The Dagstar goes to the first knob and then the first output, stock 62 Jazz bridge goes to the 2nd set of controls. Not the most sophisticated setup, and the soldering became pretty grotesque (didn't realize until halfway through I was using plumbing solder...), but it sounds great. Before, as is inherent with the Stack knobs without the 220k caps, the control weren't truly independent. The pickups also loaded each other when full up, and when rolling the tone down the Dagstar always seemed a bit nasally. However, by rewiring it, there is now a marked difference in sound. The Dagstar is even snappier and crisper than before, and the Jazz pup can add in that nice sizzle in too. Better tone when rolled down too now. Currently I'm sending the Dag into the bright channel of my Sunn 2000s, and the Jazz into the normal channel, but I'll probably start running the jazz into my Bassman 300 just to punch up its lowend response. Couldn't be happier with it right now. It's killer. Anyways, enough rambling, here's a bad photo:
