I finally got a chance to check out the clip. YEAH! What a blast! I wish a band I played in would give me that much latitude on that song. Anyway, nice job. Loved it.

Oh btw, regarding the post about adjusting the pickup height.
I just like to share i've benefitted much from it.

I fiddled with the height on my BN5 and i was surprised to hear there's actually quite a difference in tone from very subtle to quite distinct.

I remembered reading somewhere someone describing the pickup position / height is likened to micing an instrument. Where u place the "mic" will influence how the instrument will sound like to a certain degree.. I'm happy with the tweaking results on my bass.. ;)

When I got my AC6, I asked a friend of mine why he had a BNF5 and an AC5. He said the acoustic chambers of the AC5 make such a difference that he keeps his BNF5 for that "solid body" fretless tone.

That stuck with me, and I decided someday I'd have to add a solid body fretless to the family.

I personally don't see the sense in 5 string fretless basses... (which string do you do without?) so this wouldn't appeal to me, but someday, when the finances aren't so tight, the right BNF6 will come up and I'll have that solid body fretless.

Maybe this one is yours? :bassist:

Hey Tom,

I play mine tuned E to C, and I don´t miss the B much. The BN5 are pretty different, not only because of the chambers but because of the piezos and the wooden bridge. I like the AC tone more, so I don´t really consider buying the BNF5. :)

I get the Fodera YinYang this week instead, since I am playing way more fretted than fretless bass anway :D

Are you saying you recently bought a Yin Yang? You didn't happen to get it at NAMM, did you?

I sold my Yin Yang to Jason, who brought it to NAMM and sold it on and I'm wondering if it ended up with you.

EDIT: Look for the serial number on the back side of the head stock... is it M42517D?

So, I'm thinking of ordering some custom VF5's and I wanted to get my fellow Club members' input.

#1) VF5 in P/J configuration - this would likely feature a Nordstrand P pickup in the bridge, and George's single coil in the neck. I'm thinking ash/maple.

#2) VD5 with MM/J configuration - a music man style humbucker in the bridge, single coil in the neck. Ash/maple.

What do you guys think? And what colors should I order first?

Wow, those should be REALLY unique basses! Can't wait to hear clips!

I have one very strong suggestion. Don't use pickup combos with a single-coil pickup and a hum canceling pickup. Hopefully George can do a hum canceling design that sounds fairly similar to his single-coils for combos like you're describing above. The problem with a single-coil/hum-canceling combo of course is that it can't be blended to hum cancel, so in every blended configuration, as well as soloing the single-coil, you always have single-coil hum. Always.

IMHO/FWIW of course.
