so im digging this 60's vf5 a lot more than i thought i would. im playing and practicing on it all the time. got my ramp fitted and its treating me well! look forward to playing some geek squad music with my two f's next month. in the meantime......dance music and drunks!!!!!

There are only two 60's spec basses so far I've dug this much, and mine is definitely one of them. I do wish George had an ash/maple VF5 at the NAMM show that I coulda' spent a little time with, but he didn't. Maybe I'll go down and darken Donovan's doorstep someday and make him let me play one for a while.

There was a brownburst ash/maple 5 across from Markbass. Very punchy and a great playing bass too.
BTW George and I always like hangin at NAMM with Carey and his crew...we had dinner on Wed with him too. Then Sunday pm we ate with Jimmy Coppolo and "famiglia".. which was super fun also
Also, always nice to put faces to names every year...Bass Bash works for that~
This year had a real friendly vibe to it which was the most fun!

Strap button, body width and arm rest points are exactly like a Jazz Bass. A little less head-heavy than a Jazz.
+1 I am not a fan of the way the BN models hang on the strap, but the VF just feels like a 'bass'... very similar to the 'traditional' feel of a J inspired instrument, and maybe even a touch more balanced than the classic J design in sitting position (where the J can feel just a touch neck heavy). Standing, they seem identical, with no neck dive issues at all.

I was just thinking about how hopping this group was at last year's NAMM. Donovan's photos with models displaying basses, the Fbass outboard preamp, all those basses on display... there was such a buzz here.
Top of the buzz was the enthusiasm over rosewood and alder VF5s, and the reviews they were getting.
This year all we get is how cool the after party was, which is cool, but not at all as fun as photos. :-(

60's vf5 in action
warning-first 2 minutes is a cumbia....
bass solo at around 4 and a half minutes. kind of hard to listen back to, but im bad at the "quick, take a short solo in the middle of some disco" types of solos. not that my jazz **** is much better
