It's a great rig. While the little recorder I use for my clips attenuates the low end a bit, the tone is reasonably representative of that rig... very full range, very clean, plenty to top end, and a bit 'airy'. It won't thump like my 410's, but for moderate size or smaller gigs, it is an amazingly 'accurate' and clean sounding rig the weighs almost nothing:bassist:

I'm diggin' my puma 212 combo in a BIG way... and I'm pretty sure I have never been this 'gas-less' about amplification in my life! :)Tight and controlled full range tone, in a beautiful LOUD and LIGHT format. I could'nt ask for anything to be better or different about this rig, honestly.

Ken, did I read a while back that your seriesII s212 **** the bed!??! That's a bumber... I'm guessing Glenn took good care of the situation though? My 8ohm combo seems to holding up great with the lower tuning etc. I have givin' this combo a serious spanking, and It continues to impress! The thing I'm really loving about Tecamp (my combo in particular) is it's beautiful voice... the paper cone mid-high driver in this thing is super cool, and is 'right in the slot' for my tone goals. Also, seems to really compliment all the tonal varities of my BN6... wide,open, airy,smooth and warm etc.. etc...

LOVE it. :bassist:

I'm extremely excited to get a chance to try a VF5... ideally, through my rig at some point. All these great clips are just getting me gassin' hard:rollno:

VF is cool, and as you heard from the clip I posted, it sounds great through the TecAmp rig.

I did have some rattling going on in the newer s212II, but it turned out to just be something loose in the cab (I thought I had blown a driver). Even though it was nothing, Glenn sent me a brand new s212(I) he had still in the box, since I liked that cab better anyway. GREAT service.

I'd be curious to know what wood they use on the enclosures. Something I do when trying out cabs is to touch the side of the cab when playing, to feel how it behaves. Can you tell if it's made from 3/4" plywood?

No apologies necessary, Ken.

My thinking is that a club thread is for any topic of interest to club members.

For example, if I were an Fbass owner shopping for a rig that would be a good match, I could start a new topic in the general basses forum, however the sheer volume of posts on talkbass assures that it won't be likely that most Fbass owners will even see the new thread.

On the other hand, pose the question in this forum, where most Fbass owners are subscribers, the topic will get well discussed by a wide range of Fbass owners with varying depths of experience to share.

Technically, the discussion wouldn't be about Fbasses, but about amps and cabs, but this forum would still be the right place for the discussion, so in my view, that stuff isn't off topic at all.

It was interesting to me to learn your experiences about TecAmp and your VF5, and about the service you got from Glenn. Both bits may come in handy to someone someday, you know?

Ken, one of the things that took a while for me to get used to on my BN5 was when I play fingerstyle my right forearm didn't naturally rest on the top edge of the body like a more traditional Jazz style. The width of the F body was a little less wide I guess. What does the VF feel like in this regard? Thanks, Jim

I noticed the same thing. I also think it has to do with the strap lock
location being up farther. It makes the bass sit more angled and back. I
wouldn't want my Fbass to feel just like a standard or traditional jazz
though. The feel isn't bad or good for me just different and I like variety
in my basses.

I've played a couple before. If I remeber correctly they have a little more of a traditional
feel to them but they still don't feel like a typical jazz. The strap position is in it's
standard place so the bass sits more flat and your arm rests on the corner of the body
instead of on the top of it like it might on a BN bass. That's my observation anyways.
