Here's to the "Vintage" Sadowsky bass club!!

Here is something interesting I would like to share. I recently wrote J.W. Black, one of the builders listed on the headstock (see above). I sent him a couple of photos of the bass and comments about my "Vintage" Sadowsky, this is what he wrote back to me:

"Hi Ken
Thank you for the photo's.

It was just Roger and myself in 1988 era, so either one of us could have done the work.

But , looks in remarkably great condition for its age, and Roger is correct, that is a very light Bass.

Thank you for the photo's and glad to hear Roger still had a record from that long ago (Roger showed me the log book when I visited the shop in 2008), its nice to see history and amazing how fast time flies.

It took me a moment to absorb the term vintage in reference to Sadowsky, but we called a '63 Strat vintage in '73 , I guess its all relative

Okay, I wanted to be "in" with something a little different. This is my first Sadowsky, a NYC V4 (since sold after getting my last NYC, but you can hear it in the link in my sig). Anyway, my band was playing at a place in the French Quarter and "Uncle" Lionel Baptiste walked in. He watched for a few, gave us a nod of approval and headed on. To get the nod from Uncle Lionel was cool! As a guy that grew up playing metal and only ventured into the world of New Orleans music a few years ago, this was a nice little moment of knowing we had the groove down right!

Anyway, I love these pics that my wife snapped with the cell phone camera at the last minute. You see the look on my face as I look over at our guitarist in the second one. He'd just given us "the nod" before he left.

Hi Guys, put down the deposit yesterday on my first NYC custom build! It's a WL5 with a few twists. Here's the planned specs and a photoshop mock-up based on the picture of the raw wood from the master grade tops section of the website. Now, I must pop off down to the hardware store to pick up a long [DEL]weight[/DEL] wait...

Here is a little instrumental I have been working on. All instruments were performed and recorded by me.
I used my Trans Purple bass for this one. Check it out.... its called "Condition Purple" ;)
