When I check the In Stock page I always think: What basss would I get if I had to replace mine? That's the one I chose yesterday.

I like all the recent stock page P basses but they have all been brazilian rosewood boards and so only ship within the USA. I have got Roger on a quote for a new build but I would seriously look at a used option if one comes up in the meantime.

I love my Sadowsky J basses but sometimes get the P bass craving

What would you guys consider to be the most versatile sadowsky? I am looking to maybe purchase one shortly.

If you're doing a lot of slap on four-string, a JJ.

If you're doing a lot of everything, on a four-string, I'd lean toward PJ.

If you're doing a lot of everything on a five-string, consider the 5-24 Modern, but with Nordstrand big singles instead of the usual soap bars. I've done this to my alder/morado 5-24 metro, and have been very happy with it. The 5-24 pickup placement makes everything sound a bit drier, but the payoff is an incredible B-string.

Truthfully, my absolute favorite fretted bass is a 5-24 with soap bars, ebony board, mahogany body…I get the sound I aspire to in certain jazz settings. But the Metro/big singles combo cops a wider range of "traditional" tones.

No I don't have any recordings, but I can send you (Text or email) pictures and play it for you over the phone or skype if you want. It sounds more aggressive than the one with EMG 40J pickups. They both excel, but the one with EMG DC takes the cake, it has a maple top also... Just amazing! From 1993; I believe Roger Sadowsky and his gang were experimenting these pickups when they just came out that year, but in the end , decided stick with 40J pickups to maintain that Jazz thing that they are famous for. I really LOVE these 2 basses.

No worries, it would have been cool if you had already something to listen/compare the J vs DC. I'm not planning on changing the present SD soapbar for the EMG as of now.

I decided to keep the JJ5 and sell the PJ4.

I don't have a sadowsky with a passive humbucker! I played a used metro sadowsky 5 in a store once ; it sounded cool! Nice lows and highs and powerful.
Contrary to most people I like active EMG's, especially their DC series!!
They are very powerful and beefy with amazing highs and articulation ; the best pickups EMG make in my opinion ; combined with a good preamp like the Demeter (my favorite preamp out there) or the sadowsky preamp they yield very very nice tone.
Try them ... I don't think you will be sorry!

Initially i was looking at getting an rv5-24 metro. Whats the difference say between an rv4 and the will lee sig?

Cliffsnotes version - WL has a sllghtly narrower nut width (1.45" vs 1.5"), the Hipshot D-tuner, 1 extra fret, the mid switch on front (500/800 Hz), adjustable mid-boost trimpot at rear control cover, and (I believe) a slightly smaller body. In US$, new, the WL will run you about $700-800 more, give or take.

I don't use them myself, but some guys really find them helpful at damping strings at points.

Actually you get 3 for $30 so it's a 10 dollar scrunchie. Lol.
I like using it when using a Octave Pedal. Especially a Octave Pedal and Envelope Filter together also together with right hand muting thumb picking.
