For those who like the old look better, hit Talkbass 2014 on the lower left of the page, then hit Talkbass Retro. Has the old look with the new feel.

Oh yeah......Sadowsky's rule! :thumbsup:

I'm leaning toward the retro, mainly because messages are (for me) better visually separated by the strong dark blue message header and the (strong due to color diff) dark border.
The new TalkBass 2014 isn't as strong graphically (and thus visually) for me between messages. As I switch back and forth looking at each theme, the TB2014 seems less organized.

No problem, and it's still not much info, but it's a start. I personally like them both. The blues have a slightly rougher feel to the touch, but less tension. The blacks are said to be brighter, but I don't notice much difference in that area. I have both of mine strung up with blues right now, but about a month ago it was blacks. It's fun to switch it up every once in a while IMO.

Me, too. In particular, the modern scheme didn't distinguish between the existing messages on a thread and the box to create a new post. The retro is easier to see: the new message has grey toolbar instead of the blue stripe.

But hey, there's always gonna be some kind of learning curve for the users when there's a change in the interface. IME, the TB2014 migration ain't too hard to do. :cigar:

Edit: ain't too hard for the user to adapt...that's what I meant to say. I'm sure this was a ton of work for the site staff, and kudos to them for keeping TB running on a current software platform.

Well, I do have some previous experience with the software they're using here on TalkBass (it's called XenForo for a specific reason ;)), so I don't really have to get used to the software.
It's nice that Paul contracted to have a vBulletin type theme done and I appreciate the high level of quality that was accomplished. :thumbsup:

This is really OT here, and there's a specific thread for it elsewhere in the banner we all saw, BUT, just to say one thing as long as we've done this, I'm damning the torpedoes, both feet, trying hard to acclimate. Most UI devs make choices for well researched reasons, so I figure it's just a familiarity thing, not a degradation. I figure using the retro theme will be a short term gain but long term loss. We'll see.

I think I will also really like the feel of this, and still have a ways to go on mine. But, at the same time I might stress about the "not new" look that it makes as I am kinda anal retentive. Then again, it will just be more "home" feeling.

If you just want to accelerate the wear, you might try 0000 steel wool instead of the sandpaper. Buff lightly, only a few strokes in one place, without taking all the finish off. Kinda half-stepping it, y'know?
