OK Sadowsky freaks/experts, I have a question and need your help....

I currently gig with a 1992 NYC Sadowsky Jazz and a 1974 Fender P bass (or a 1997 '62RI MIA P). Flats on the P sometimes, but bright new or nearly new rounds on the Sadowsky.

Here is my dilemma....

I NEED a jazz style bass as I play lots of Red Hot Chili Peppers and other funky stuff that requires slapping. I also like the sound of my Sadowsky for more modern stuff (like new Springsteen, Foo Fighters, Green Day, Finger 11, John Mayer, U2, etc.)

I LIKE having a Precision style bass to play the older stiff like Zeppelin, Stones, Doobies, ZZ Top, Deep Purple, Queen, etc.

So my question is this..... if I were to only gig with one bass, what would it be? Would a P/J Sadowsky work? I like having both Jazz pickups but have never run a P and a bridge Jazz pickup together.

Sorry about the thread hijack, but I really love my Sadowsky, but hate switching basses on a gig.

Beautiful Sadowsky! The Red-ish Madagascar Rosewood is perfect agains the CAR body. Nicely played.

thank you.. it does have many little dings in it along the edge where the Gold undercoat shows through.. it is a workhorse for sure.

My Hybrid kills, Baird. Im not a slap whore but the little I've down with it sounds great. The bass is a bit deeper than a JJ for sure. I love the maple board and ash body on mine. Hey, I didnt steer you wrong on the nyc, right? LOL

Im sure you'll love a hybrid. The more I gig mine, the more I want to gig it. Flexible, great neck, tons of tones. Here is a pic for the masses

I've had JJ with HCs, JJ with SCs and PJ and IMO the PJ is the most versatile of them all. I'm not a fan of the J neck pickup soloed, but I really love the P tone. The bridge pickup is a jazz pickup after all and when you have poth pickups full on you get a great tone. I like the JJ pickup for slap slightly better, but I also like to have one single bass and the PJ gives me all I need. (For the record: my PJ can be converted to JJ, but I'm not even thinking about it).

love the PJ! heck, shawn @ the epifani shop loved my old PJ sadowsky, always saying, "that's it!" course, his r&b slap feel is second to none.

while i like the regular pj setup, the reverse P sounds great, too. really tightens up the low b and adds a growly fatness to the higher G.

Did you steer me wrong? No. I have a bass that I will likely never sell in my lifetime that plays/sounds amazing.

My wife will likely have a different opinion that would go something like.... "That new F&^%$ng bass cost how much!?!?!?!?"

Before you go dropping 2 grand on a metro, maybe do the more sensible thing. Put some fresh flats on that sadowsky and add a vtc. That'll be maybe a 250 dollar investment, And I think with the right flats you'll be happy slapping with the vtc on full, then roll it back, pan towards the neck and you'll have a pretty fat tone at your fingertips.

Yep it is. She totally picked it out all on her own. She even spoke with Roger several times and I must say that he was amazing and helped her a ton. She's sticking around!

My NYC 24-Fret 5, ebony board, swamp ash body, flamed spalted maple top, and a paltry 7.9 pounds. Thank goodness this bass wasn't Ken's thing, because it was precisely what I was about to order... down to every last detail. He spared me the long wait.
