My wallet did not want to hear this!I need a nice J5 in my collection and a Satin would work wonderfully.
My favorite basses are alder, and I prefer them with maple board, but my alder/Brazilian NYC P5 sounds great so I think I'd enjoy an alder/Indian J5.
Color: I'm intrigued about the black cherry metallic but haven't seen one in satin, and I'm not sure about it anyway... seems like it might have a root beer vibe. No matter: I'd probably go with orange, or non-vintage shoreline gold.

I have a black cherry that I just bought over Christmas and I'm mildly upset as I would've really looked into the Satin if I knew it would be available. Also curious what the satin looks like, but I can say it is not even close to root beer, just a really nice deep burgundy with a touch of metallic flake. Looks awesome up close and I'd say the photos you see do it justice. My wallet did not want to hear this!I need a nice J5 in my collection and a Satin would work wonderfully.

Hello,
I would like to see a photo of the "satin finish" in white pearl color (with, if possible, a mapple board and a tortoise pick). I might fall for a JB 5 strings...
I search on the Sadowsky website but I have not found
One of you would have a picture of this finish ?
Thank![]()
Ok
I will be patient.
Wait and see...
Black Cherry is awesome. The one I had looked black from a distance but up close you could definitely tell it was dark red. Did not look like root beer at all.

Thanks to you both. A complicating factor is that the black cherry metallic will have the satin finish, which might (?) alter the hue somewhat.
I have a pair of red basses already... black cherry is not the same thing of course, but I'll probably go with a different color entirely. That said, I will keep an eye out for pix of satin black cherry metallic.
Same color in gloss:
The other one I always wanted was a transparent green metallic over quilted maple, but have to say that saving almost $3k makes the decision a little easier.
The decisions the fortunate face...![]()
Is it possible to have a transparent metallic color? I don't think that's doable...

It is not possible; I was referring to having my eye on a NYC model for my 50th birthday, but not sure it's worth the extra $3k vs. a Satin. Is it possible to have a transparent metallic color? I don't think that's doable...
What I am most interested in is the loss of 1lb; that to me is really intriguing (my metro is at 9lb even right now). For $3k, I'd probably stick with the black cherry Satin and sell my metro and not really be down much money on that transaction. A NYC model would set me back a fair bit further. As for longevity, the longer I wait, the shorter that payback period! Its quite the dilemma. Metros are fine instruments and I'm sure the new satin series will be even better. The $3k difference isn't exactly chump change however, there is something to be said about getting exactly what you want. Spreading the $3k difference over the number of years you expect to enjoy the bass is what sold me but it wasn't an easy decision and I still wonder if I made the right choice. I'm sure that getting it in hand will get me there, its just the matter of getting to that point.
