Club Sadowsky!!!

I was bored so I put a set of DR Black Beauties on the MV5. They don’t look out of place, but I still need to break them in before I judge them sonically. The B is great though!

Any update on how these sound? I've never used them before.

We all did our parts from our separate homes. We played to a backing track as a guide and recorded our parts and video. I used my iPad as one camera, and MacBook for the other camera, while recording the Bass into GarageBand. Then uploaded our individual files to Dropbox. Our keyboard player mixed the audio in Logic Audio, and edited it all together in Final Cut Pro.
The singer did all the backing vocals himself so those were overdubs.

Excellent info, thank you! IIRC, the last audio/video I saw which yours reminded me of in format, was also Final Cut Pro for post production, so that makes sense. I appreciate the reply!

Who here has A/B'd the Black Label Steels against the DR Lo-Rider Steels?

Any update on how these sound? I've never used them before.

Update: they are now off the bass I can't get into the feel of them. Too low tension with a plastic sounding attack for lack of a better word. I've gone back to flatwounds. Currently Fender 9050's, but I have a set of Sadowsky Blue Label on the way. I'm way more into the vintage side of things tonally, and this bass with flats really sounds great.

Update: I have DR Pure Blues (45-130) on now, and they’re awesome! The GHS Round Core Boomers were good, but not quite what I was looking for. I still have a few others I can try, but the DR Pure Blues sound and feel so good, I’m gonna keep them on until they need changing.

I'll echo your sentiment on the DR Pure Blues. I put them on my old P bass a couple years ago after using strictly Rotos forever, and I really like them. It seemed only natural that I put a set on the Metro PJ5 I recently acquired. Spoiler alert, they sound and feel great on that bass too.

I recently got a RNDI to use with my FOH and IEM gigs and I'm very impressed. Those Di's are worth every penny and makes everything sound better.

I carry my RNDI to every church I play for.

I just can't get back into roundwounds after playing flats for so many years. I miss the initial transient. The Fender flats sound stellar on this bass with a Sadowsky Black Label flatwound B. Not sure where I'll find another one of these...

That's my case too. I tried twice in the past but didn't keep them for more than a few hours. I love the Sadowsky black label flats though I know I'll have to try the Blues when I run out of them.

Does anyone know if there are any differences in the Sadowsky preamp that came with EMG pickups? I have a 96 NYC Modern 5 on the way which came with EMGs originally, but the previous owner swapped them out for Seymour Duncan NYCs (the Fodera ones) and a Glockenklang 2-band... I’d like to try getting the NYCs and the Sadowsky pre to play together. Guessing the pots might need swapping, 25k to 500k?

It's been a while since I played the Black Label Sadowsky rounds, but I tried them once to see how they stack up against my decades-long favorite, the DR Lo-Riders. As I recall, the Sadowsky set was not bad, but lacked some of the punch and string life that I like in the DRs. It has been a while, though, so I can't give a really good, in-depth A/B comparison.

And for the record, my favorite flats BY FAR are the Sadowsky Blue Labels! Between those and DRs for round wounds, I don't often feel the need to branch out.

I played black rounds before, but kept going back to DR until Blues came out. Not bad, just not my fave.
