They are. It's just a wooden template laid over the bookmatched pieces. You'd have to double check with Ellis that the blank is the right size for a larger vintage body, but there should be room.

I spent a couple of days tracking Bass for a singer songwriter at a nice little suburban boutique studio. Really nice folk, and really nice Studio with huge trident desk, Barefoot monitors, and a heap of outboard racks, a mix of old an new.
I used my UV70 5 string for about everything on the session. Preamp on and flat, VTC at about 50%, slight pan to the neck pickup. The engineer said to me over the talkback, “what sort of Bass is that? It sounds amazing!”.
When I listened back in the control room, the bass sounded huge, deep and clean. There was one tune that had a pedalled low B and it sounded great. I asked him how he had set the eq for the Bass and if it was running through any of his outboard compression or fix. He said no, it was flat eq, no effects, just the Bass sound as I sent it to him. Makes me smile!

I've recently become a big fan of the Contact Cores and use them on my Sadowskys. I order them in a custom gauge set (CC129, CC105, CC80, STB58, STB40) - the STBs are the Standard Super Steels since GHS doesn't make CCs that small. Awesome balance and a hair more flexible in feel since they are overall lighter in gauge than the Sadowsky Blues (45-130T) I used to play. Not at all weak or thin sounding, I think a little more focused in the fundamental. I tried them while the Sadowsky Blues were out of stock for a while, and in the process found strings that work really well for me. Give them a try!

I use my Sadowsky Preamp DI as a clean DI to send to the board. That pedal preamp was bypassed on this session as I was using the preamp on the Bass. I'll engage the pedal preamp when I use one of my passive Fenders. I also send a "dirty" DI to the board from the VT Bass DI pedal. I dial in just a hint of breakup and an Ampeg-ish type of sound from it. The engineer the other day had a 50/50 spilt of each coming through. All the fun pedals on the pedalboard were bypassed for this session, I just ran a patch cable from the output of the Sadowsky DI across to the VT Bass DI. I've thought about getting a fancy Noble DI or REDDI, but honestly, I think I'm pretty happy with this setup.

I like steels with the standard HC Sadowsky pic-ups and the Contact Cores were my favorite, they had a grind in the tone that none of the other Steels I tried seemed to achieve. Jon Moody hooked me up with some to try, use to run them on my old MV 5 all the time. When I got my Will Lee, I switched to nickel and so far the Sadowsky Blue Nickles seem to be the ticket with the SC's.
