NBD arrived this morning and I finally just got around to unboxing it. The folks at the shop were kind enough to restring it with flats. I initially had some reservations about getting a bass with gold hardware, but I believe it'll be fine in the long run.

Getting 2022 started off on a good note (pun totally intended ).

This is the only bass with gold hardware that I've been wowed by. It looks like it's basking in sunrise or sunset during the small time period that Spielberg refers to as "magic light." Very nice.

Not usually a fan of gold hardware at all, but that combo looks amazing.

Love the detail of the gold pickgaurd screws.

gold hardware isn't a problem as long as you're fairly vigilant about wiping it down after pretty much every use and washing your hands kinda' regularly to remove the sweat/salt.

forgot to mention, i have my old 2004 NYC strung with flats right now and it's really amazing how great they sound in a mix. i'm normally all about bright steel rounds, but man, somehow those flats just kinda' work. fo gigger. lol

Oh yeah, I'm mainly a rocker who loves the roundwound clang (somewhere between Entwistle and Pinnick ), but flats are purr-fect for my occasional gigs playing classic rootsy/country/bluesy/R&B/oldies stuff. Flats live on my alder/Brazilian NYC P5 -- currently Sadowsky Blues, but I also love TIs (and I haven't disliked any others I've tried).

my older nyc is a plain jane ash body, maple neck, jj5 with singles. also Sadowsky blue flats.

Good to know! I like the clank and zing of rounds, but I also like the thump of flats for certain music. Before this one, the only bass I had with flats is a Fender P5. I'm undergoing a little science experiment and trying to get most (if not all) my basses to one nut width. Most of them are now 1 3/4" and the Fender is 1 7/8". This new one will essentially replace the Fender...I think.

Gorgeous bass! Love the color combo, and always loved the Sadowsky P basses. Is it a jazz-width neck? That scale is perfect. I'll take a Sadowsky P and 1 1/2 pounds of Grouper Filet please.

I've had Sadowsky Blue Label Flats on my Sadowsky P/J, my G&L P and loved them. I recently put a set on my NYC Satin jazz, also with single coils, and I'm blown away by how great they sound. Pretty sure it's an Alder body with Morado board. I already knew how great they felt, but the sound is a pleasant surprise. Roger, you are indeed "The Man".
