Question for the club:
I just scored a screaming deal on a 4-string, first-gen RSD Metro Express. (Details and NBD post coming later)
It has the 1st-gen SMX version of the preamp. I know that the VTC is offered as an "add-on" upgrade. Having owned several Sadowskys previously, I'm very familiar with the VTC and what it does but here's my question:
Does the add-on deliver, or am I better off upgrading to a new 4-knob Sadowsky pre?
I've read that there were some differences with the 1st gen preamp and adding the VTC was not as straightforward as it could be. I've been doing some research and I think the difference is only around $125 (or so) between the two options. Is it a better idea to spend the few extra bucks or will the modified 1st gen pre work just fine?
