Club Sadowsky!!!

IMG_0883.jpeg

Well, this arrives on Thursday. GCUsed. Japan MV4…….cant wait. It’s Christmas in April.

IMG_0901.jpeg

This arrived unscathed. 8lbs 14.4 oz….but feels good on the strap. My Metro express is 8lbs 4oz, as the body is 40mm thick. These Japan models are 44mm thick. Headstock is also slightly thicker than the SMX by app 2mm.

The serial # is higher than any listed in the lookup. The highest one there is 10982. This bass’s # is M11189. Assuming built in 2021 at the end of the Japan production.

But it really feels so well built. I’m very pleased.

Can I get a legitcheck on a Sadowsky that recently popped up on FB Marketplace? Guy says he paid 3200 for it and it doesn;t look like a Metroexpress but I'm not too well versed on my Sadowsky's

To me, the Sadowsky decal doesn’t look clean and the String Retainer is definitely a Hipshot, not the thinner size Sadowsky’s use. Ask for a S/N

Looks to me like the lower end Portabag Express that comes with the Metrolines.
Sadowsky PortaBag Express - Electric Bass Gig Bag

Compare that to the NYC bag: Portabag - Sadowsky Guitars

Notice the NYC bag has the velcro flap across the bottom of the bag. The Portabag in the pictures clearly does not.

Not saying that the seller isn't selling a NYC with a German Metroline case, just that the case doesn't seem to be what would have originally come with a NYC.

The logo looks off but could be the resolution of the photo and the string retainer is way off. You definitely need the serial number because if it's a little older it's possible someone replaced the string retainer to a hipshot style but like someone said it's bigger than the one Sadowsky uses.

For reference: the two NYCs I bought in 2010 came with Portabags that did not have the velcro flap at the bottom. Some years after that the "soft hard case" I'd requested for my 2005 NYC became unreliable, so I replaced it with a Portabag -- and this somewhat newer one does have the velcro flap at the bottom.

Sadowsky Metroline MJ-5 question

For you MJ owners out there, does your vintage tone control work the same for both pickups? On my MJ-5, the VTC works the same on my neck PU in all three switch positions as on my NYC-J. But on the bridge MM pickup, the control is a bit more subtle in the parallel and single coil (switch up and middle) position, and doesn't make much--if any--difference in the series position (switch down) position. If I turn up the treble control, the VTC is more obvious.

The bass sounds great in many combinations of these pickups and switches. I'm just checking to see if I need to have the bass looked at.

Thanks!
