This dude is getting a gloriously thick tone from his MV5! I get a similar tone on my ME fretless, but he is a much better player than I am.
Which one did you get? The Warwick-Sadowsky one?To be as brief as possible: the case is not what I was expecting, so it's going back.
I made a rush decision to purchase partly because I'll be out of town starting this Saturday, and I wanted to scratch it off my to-do list. Terrible decision for multiple reasons, one of which being that now I have to scramble to return it. Also, per the website I'll be charged for all shipping... that's to be expected... but there's also a 25% restocking fee.
Yes, Warwick-Sadowsky. I got the flagship Portabag, not the less expensive Portabag Express. As others have said, it isn't on the same level as the pre-Warwick Portabag.
Indeed. Those guys may have licensing to the brand, but they're a very different animal to that of NYC, or even the late MIJ shop.
Bummer. Possibly smartest to switch over to the Access bag?
FWIW, my 30 yo Reunion Blues Cordura bag is still going strong. They’ve changed as well. Right now the whole “Global Supply” system appears to have some holes in it.

I've been using a Reunion Blues Continental for over a decade: offers outstanding protection, but pocket space is limited and it's also in the "longneck" shape (beer bottle) that is difficult to open wide compared to the "teardrop" shape that has a straight hinge.
As noted I own a few Protec Contegos. Love that case for the price, but for my #1 Sadowsky I want better protection.
I've heard good things about Mono, but I owned the M80 for awhile and it was a disappointment. The velcro on the neck-securing flap became useless, and the case itself became floppy fairly quickly when I wasn't even gigging it all that frequently.

I have a couple of Mono Vertigo bags that I've been pretty happy with. One is fairly new and hasn't seen a whole lot of gigging yet (it came with my fretless CB), but the other I got used from a really busy local player 5 years ago and so I'd estimate that it's at least 10 years old and still going strong!
Well, this just got finished and I couldn’t be happier. 2020 NOS P/J 4 Hybrid in 3 tone burst with a maple board. Came to me new in the box as a leftover. The 4 years in the box hadn’t served it well, and it needed some magic to make it what you see here. 2024 MetroExpress bridge. Brandy new MEC/VTC plate. Clear guard. Full setup. Frets were level right outta the box. Neck needed a few weeks to settle into low action and a nice flat straight board. Basically a new 2020 with all the current mods. And an unbelievable 7lbs 11.6 oz complete. New battery, copper shield in the cavity. She’s a beauty. I’ll drop it in the classifieds. It’s so pretty I’m afraid to play it. Maple board is snappy. I really think this is one of my best projects. It’s striking how much thinner the prior series necks are vs my current 2024 Modern 4. My modern feels like a P-Bass neck next to this one. Goes to show, theres a Sadowsky for any budget now. Who’d a thought?
I'm almost positive that Access used to make the Portabag. I bought one used years ago. It's exactly like my good Portabags. Only difference is the Access name, different color stitching and zipper pulls.
I believe you are correct, and that's why I'm going with Access. Should have chosen them first... lesson learned.
This is a great Metroline Sadowsky Modern demo.
This is surprising to me. My Mono M80 gig bag is enormous and super stiff. I also has a massive rubber bumper on the heel for when you set it on end while traveling. I've had more than one gigbag wear a hole at the back strap pin. It's more like a soft sided hard case for me so I don't carry it a lot because it is so large. I don't know which version of the Sadowsky gig bag I have with my Metroline, but it's pretty nice and seems very protective.
It’s good to know that even the “professional” bag isn’t the same. Sorry, it came at your expense.
What’s different from the old NYC bag?
I wonder what new NYC basses ship in(?).
Just to reiterate; the Access 5 has significantly less storage than the Sadowsky (old model).
I am bummed that I'll be losing out on storage space, but protection is more important for me. Difference: the new Portabag is far less sturdy than the pre-Warwick version. Heck, the ProTec Contego might be a step up in rigidity, though perhaps with less padding. Didn't directly compare the new Portabag to the Contego so I'm not certain.

I think I have relapsed into my Sadowsky purchasing condition. Just got this Japan Modern 4 from another TB’er. My absolute favorite config. .Olympic White/Maple Board. Boooyah!
