Tell me about it. I’ve recently moved away from the entry level Sadowsky’s to the more mid level Japan units. ( I’ll be selling my last Chinese made unit in a few days) And I can attest, the quality is commensurate with the pricing. The NYC’s represent the best of the line. So, you’re likely to be very pleased for many years to come. READ: Verdine envy running rampant. I actually had a Verdine MetroExpress as my #1 for years, but it too required some attention prior to being gig ready. It’s now gone, along with every entry level Sadowsky I’ve owned. I’m loving the quality of the Japan made basses. Maybe someday, I too will have an NYC Verdine. Yours is my fav config. Oh, man, they are soooo good to play and sound incredible! I previously had an M5-24 and RV5, but these are much better! They are getting pretty hard to find around here now, so the price keeps climbing....

Thanks, yes, it's a nice one! It had been played pretty regularly since new (2012) and the bass/treble knob was quite worn out, so I had to get that replaced when I bought it. And it had some minor hum issues, but it was just a dry solder joint where the bridge ground-wire connected to the pre-amp ground. Whereas the MV5 (2011) is in mint condition and hasn't seen much play time at all....

I had that exact MV5 config on a Japan Metroexpress. Loved it. Was my #1 for years. I’ve moved to 4’s as I really don’t need the couple extra notes anymore. And they’re just far lighter and less weildy
Just re- finished this fingerboard ( again) . Got this P/J 4 Hybrid as a NOS 2020 outta Spain in the fall of 2023. Needed some love. Fingerboard was extremely blotchy so I originally refinished it in Ebony+Poly stain but the rounds eventually ate through the poly back down to the fingerboard wood. So, I sanded off all the Poly stain and restained with ebony finish ( No Poly) Then sanded all the way up to 10,000 grit. Makes for a very glassy feel on the board. Looks even better than the last time. Installed a set of Fender Medium Light flats ( cause I ain’t messin’ up my newly refinished fingerboard with Rounds) With the hipshot hardware, VTC Kit and custom guard, i think it’s quite the looker. As I’ve recently moved up to MetroLine basses , It’s off to the classifieds.

Hi! If I may... I am looking for a MetroExpress to review in my channel and take it for myself if I like it. I mostly play flamenco oriented music, so my priority is a bridge pickup that sounds sweet and cuts in the mix as good as possible. I prioritise a 5 string and my choices are:
- Will Lee 5 / JJ5 (Anyone knows the different with the standard JJ? It's a bit more expensive I don't know why)
- Modern 21 MJ. For barely the same price I get the extra pickup, although I love the looks of the M5.
Any experience with these basses? Should I consider another model as well?

Current main gigging duo. 2013 alder & 2017 ash. The Nordys on the '13 slay, while the stock Sadowsky pups on the '17 shave off just a touch of highs. Love 'em both!
I’m considering replacing the preamp in one of my basses with the Sadowsky prewired pre. I have a few questions, and I apologize if they’ve been answered elsewhere.
1. The current onboard preamp revision has +18 dB boost on the bass and treble controls, but I seem to remember an older revision having around +12 dB. Any tonal differences between the two? I’d imagine the current controls are more sensitive with +18 dB of range than with the former +12 dB.
2. My bass currently has an 18V preamp. Are there any pros or cons to also wiring the Sadowsky at 18V instead of 9V?
3. Can the pickup pan control be easily rewired to the more common pan orientation, or is it permanently set to the standard Sadowsky pan orientation?

BOTH : ML Germany. Metroline 21 fret MM style bass, Bolt on. Limited edition 2022.
+1 The spreads in difference between them all is quite broad in many cases.
