Club Sandberg (part 2)

Is your concern about tone? I'm a big believer that a bass guitar is more than simply the sum of its parts, and that changing one component for another will not necessarily produce the intended effect on tone.

Given that you'll be getting a masterpiece relic, I would think the aesthetic differences between ash and alder will be more obvious than any tone differences. The ash body would likely be heavier, which may be more obvious to your back.

I am becoming more of a hippie as I get older. So, any bass guitars that I purchase in the future will be made from environmentally friendly tonewoods. Unfortunately ash is not one of them.

I would trust Sandberg to select the right woods to make a great sounding bass guitar more than I would a lot of other manufacturers, and I would embrace alternatives to the traditional ash, alder, maple and rosewood just to help make the planet a little bit nicer for a little bit longer.

I've been looking at picking up a different pickgaurd as well, but the prices/shipping seemed a bit out of my range for it on their webstore. I added a BT7 Bass Xtender to my bass right away. I actually figured out the correct one to get from a different forum post on here about Ida Nielsen's Sandburg Signature model.

My goal was to provide, as close as I could, the unadulterated sound of the bass. So I plugged the Sandberg directly into my Zoom R24 digital recorder. On the Zoom, I set the EQ flat and used no compression, reverb, or other effects. So the sound is the bass itself. I still have the stock roundwound strings on the bass that came with it from Sandberg. Eventually I'll replace them with my preferred strings, GHS Pressurewounds.

Please forgive the quality of the playing. I was just noodling whatever popped into my head.

I started with the settings on the Booster the way I normally have them: pickup blend in the middle (both pickups on), treble rolled mostly off, mid bumped up, bass slightly bumped up.

Then, after playing a little bit, I put the treble, mid, and bass knobs all flat, and played a little. You can hear the sound thins out with the EQ flat, as would be expected.

Then, while continuously hitting an open A, I rolled the treble eq full on, then full off, then back to center. I did the same for the mid eq, and for the bass eq.

Next, with the EQs flat I then rolled the blend knob to the neck pickup and then to the bridge pickup (and attempted a little Jaco).

Then I pulled the volume knob up to put it into passive mode (you can hear a little click). Then I pushed the volume knob back down to put it back into active mode.

Lastly I returned the EQ knobs to my preferred positions.

There is definitely plenty of texture available, as I had hoped, and you've put my mind at ease on placing my order for the Booster rather than a more known quantity in a TT/VT. Cheers!

The choice of the body in ash rather than in alder would not only be an aesthetic question but also a question to differentiate it from the jazz alder rosewood ... I would like to have just some opinion to understand if it could be a good idea or leave the order unchanged with the body in alder

I no longer have the VM4 but now have an additional Metallic Red series 2 HCA Umbo and a California II TT4 Deluxe passive with Birds eye Maple top.
