Coated strings

I used to use Elixir strings and I liked them alot, I play with a pick so I still wear them out pretty quick but they still last alot longer then regular strings and if you play with your fingers they will last a really long time. The down side is they are really expensive, my friend worked at a music store and could get stuff for cost so I would get him to pick them up for me for less than 1/2 the regular price. I quit buying them after he stopped working there and just went with the cheap strings since then.

DR Neon and Black Beauties, Rotosound Nexus, Elixer. Are 3 of the main and popular ones. Theres been reviews on all three of these lately. Partly as a result from DR's introduction of their new coated strings "Neons" and upgrading the coating on the Black Beauties with the same used on the new neons. Theres big thread about the dr neons.

Rotosound nexus are said by some users to be swing 66 like but with a tad more treble. Like the Elixers, the coating does wear off esp if a pick player, after a few months in area struck with pick. Elixers tend to start shedding after awhile resulting in what I call "furry strings". Lol. I dont like elixers sound wise nor feel wise. But some love them. As best I know the Rotosound Nexus are closer in feel to the dr's.

Feel wise the DR neons and new version of black beauties is closer to the feel of uncoated strings to me. Whereas the elixers feel silkeir and softer, perhaps more slippery to. Same for the Rotosund true bass nylon wrapped feel wise to me.

I just put the dr neons on my fender american standard jazz and they sound and feel great. I've always have been a non coated string guy, because of feel. Then I saw these cool glowing strings and got them for the looks. I love the feel and look. I will give it a little more time before saying if I'm going to switch completely over. But I don't think so. I love cleartones. And what I like the most about the dr neons is the bounce on them for slapping. Real nice. Gotta give slap tone and feel to the dr neons

I tired the DR, feel was good, but it lose the brightness as shortly as any non coated strings. Maybe earlier! I think the same about Daddario EXPs. I don't really like the feel of Elixirs, but it's the only strings I tired what keep the brightness considerable longer than normal strings. I never try the Nexus. My favorite strings are Swing Bass 66', but always wish to keep it's sound longer, the nexus can do?

im an elixir guy through and through. DR hi beams are my second choice. then pro steels (which sound great for a month, then die).

i put elixirs on all my instruments, and have for several years, so whatever feel people are discussing, i dont know much about. other bass strings just dont last as long. they arent as bright and they dont stay that way. elixirs seem to last me months before my B starts to go dead. im primarily a finger guy, so mine rarely shred. even still, they last longer than regular rounds.
