Ive got Dogal Jaco Flats on my Cutlass (P), a bit of an outside choice, but they are a ‘modern’ design flat thats a little less modern than CF. Very smooth feel.

Funny you say that! I went to GC and I played an Ibanez SR1305 5 string tonight (that cost $1,500 - almost as much as an MIA Fender and as much as an MIK Spector). I liked it better in passive mode, but it was just OK tonally. It had rounds on it like I'd expect on an Ibanez. I also played a Spector NS Pulse II 6 with rounds and I liked it much better than the Ibanez. My only complaint was that it had too many strings. 5 is my limit! The Ibanez was long gone. It got sold to help fund the J and the P.
I was not liking the Ibanez at all with rounds. Both pickups full on with the power switch in the middle output position was "OK" but even with the eq it was just "off". Either pickup alone was just "No". Putting the LaBella's on was a hail Mary to try to get something useful out of it and it was really, really good with those, played with the fingers
Came here to say this, one of the best sets of strings I've ever played.LaBella low T flats are my faves!!!
Well...I was just going to flip a coin to decide which to put on the Precision. I thought we could have fun debating the matter.
I use it for recording. I play a variety of styles but nothing esoteric or on the fringe.
Also debating if I should upgrade the pickup while doing the work. I have a Fender Custom 62 P Bass pickup to replace the stock pickup. I think I should get some play time on the new flats before making that switch.

DTFWhen talking about the LaBella"flatwound strings, which strings are we talking about exactly? The Deep Talkin Flats, the Low Tension Flats or the Olintos ?
I thought as much. That's a polar opposite in terms of tone once played in and settled down. I've never experienced flats with a lower bassy thump than the DTF's and many players claim the Cobalts are the brightest flats you can throw on a bass.
Really you just gotta try them to see which you'll like better. Tone is arbitrary and contextual. If there was only one correct string/pickup combination, those would be the only strings and pickups in anyone's bass, on any recording, or on stage.I was just going to flip a coin to decide which to put on the Precision.
