Does anyone think Michael Todd is a good bassist? I really like his work on "No World For Tomorrow". I'm really wondering because I listen to it a lot (love the CD, some parts are questionable but IMO the CD was just brilliant instrumentally.) and people are always saying Travis is such a good guitarist, and Claudio is an awesome vocalist/guitarist. Nothing ever about MT being a good bassist though or even Chris Pennie for his drum work on No World Tomorrow.


P.S. Does anyone think the last solo on the End Complete V: On The Brink sounds a lot like a David Gilmour solo?

I think that he is a decent bass player but I only like a few of the songs on that CD.
Taylor Hawkins recorded the drums on that album. Penne was not allowed to record due to some sort of contractual obligations.

I think he's definately a decent enough bass player. He definately has a few moments on their most recent album where he starts to shine a bit, like the little run-up he does during the chorus of Feathers. In their previous albums he rarely played something notable, that I can remember anyways. I do like his tone better these days; I believe he's playing a Fender J?

As much as I liked Josh on drums (he defiantely had his own voice), I think Hawkins ripped on No World!

Anyone checking out any of their Neverender shows? I'd love to go, especially to see the set for In Keeping Secrets. Money's a little too tight right now, though :bawl:

I think he's VERY good. Excellent tone, good lines that support AND he is interesting without being obvious. He has a singular, identifiable voice on his instrument. I am a big Coheed fan, and we he was out to go to rehab I was very nervous, he would be hard to replace without a noticeable change.

Is that why he left for a little while last year? I thought he just wanted out and then realized what a mistake he was making... I guess I hope he's doing well.

I don't think it's been formally discussed; they announced both departures as due to personal reasons. Michael said something rehab on the DVD that came with No World.

Ah, here we go... Wikipedia says: At the beginning of the 2006 European Tour, Todd left the band due to a growing heroin addiction, and eventually checked into rehab.

I saw them live a little over a month ago, and i would say, yeah he's a good bassist, or, looking at the general bassplayer in this kinda bands, I will even call him exelent! He made it intresting to listen too, and he does vary his technique quite a bit.. Wich made me look mostly at him..

I need to find the No world for tomorrow album.

Oh, and by listening to their music and seeing their image, I must say, that these who have managed to call this band "EMO" is VERY wrong!!

I friggin love co&ca, I even started looking at spector cuz mike played them, now i own a legend custom. I always loved his bass playing cuz he always seems to play what fits and sounds right, and very melodically. If you wanna hear him play tough stuff, just check out from ffear through the eyes of madness from good apollo volume 1. Then you'll have no doubt he has some skill. Thats what i love about his playing, he doesnt have to show off all the time, but he can if he wants.

I think it sounds first like a Gilmour solo, then turns into The Wall. Like, the entire album, condensed down into a few minutes.

And I think Michael Todd is a fantastic bass player! I really do like his lines because they fit, but they're their own voice (as mentioned before). I remember when I first started playing bass, one of the first things I wanted to learn was the line to Time Consumer. It's just fits so well. Another great line: Apollo 1: The Writing Writer. I just think its really cool.
