coil cords

I wasn't sure where to post this and I thought this was as good as the rest.

I love coil cords but have a problem with them shorting. I just wondered if anyone tried any of the brands and had good luck with them?

Lava, Bullet and Vox are all expensive cords are any of them a better better longer lasting cord?

I have a bullet cable. It's been reliable for years. I had a red one before my pedal board was stolen, replaced it with a clear one. The best part is that it stays neat and near you when using a pedal board but is flexible if you need to move.

I only use coil cords, been doing so for years and i wont play a gig without one!

I would say the worst available now are the Fender! Delux or normal they really arent worth it and a really low quality! Had issues with both mine!

In the middle i would put the vox, its decent but for some reason the jack doesnt agree with a few of my basses.
I only use it at home to practice and wouldnt take it out, it feels a bit flimsy and the lead isnt that thick!

On top i would put the bullet cables, IMO they are the best coil chords you can find! I have honestly not been able to tell the difference between the curly and a good quality 3 meter cable treble wise!
They are really well built and you can get any color you like!
They are the only ones i use.... Got them on eBay!!

Lava is apparently very good to but are very expensive and not available in the UK so i cant tell you if they are any good!


I would recommend the bullet without hesitation, i have 5 never had an issue!

+1 on being great if you use a pedal board on the front of the stage! Makes i really nice to walk around...
If you plug in the back at your amp it isnt that great...

some here say they short out because of weight caused by the coiled up wire hanging in the air puts stress on the jack or even the amps' input as it hangs from your amp input, sorta makes sense.

I bought a red Vox coiled cord just to try out for kicks to go with my Am St P5, Cola Red. :bassist: Got a sale price at MF.

It does serve a purpose though, as in when I have a small area to setup in. The cord hangs behind me in the air and not all around my feet like my 18' Bayou Cables inst cable. I also use a 10' Live Wire w/kill switch on the jack for my older Markbass amps; no mute button, so it too serves a purpose.

And I have a couple other inst cables 6' 10' 12' 20' that I use now and then depending on my needs and so as not to wear any of them out and of course to carry in gigbag as extra.

Gitard always forgets his inst cable or gitar strap, so he ends up borrowing my backups alot. :rollno:

I haven't used a coil cord for an instrument cable in years (though I've used them as makeshift patch cables when in a pinch :D), and to me, the above is what has always been the real value of a coil cable.

I've never really had any more of a problem with coil cords shorting than straight cables, even cheap Radioshack coils. Of course, that's unscientific and is just my experience.
